Winter is coming… well if we’re honest it’s well and truly here. But winter is here doesn’t sound anywhere near as good, does it? We are feeling the pain for any of our lovely candidates and clients that are out in the cold at this time of year, so we’ve compiled our top tips for surviving the frost and making it through to our next batch of sun, or at least until your next holiday.
1. Carry a flask – A flask is a great way of carry something to warm you up throughout the day. Maybe it’s tea or coffee, maybe it’s something a bit more adventurous like a nice wintery soup… or hot chocolate? Whatever floats your boat, your secret is safe with us. If you’re looking for a recommendation then try Chilly’s. They sell double walled coffee cups that keep your drinks warm without burning your hands. https://www.chillysbottles.com/uk/categories/coffee-cups
2. Gloves – This sounds like an obvious suggestion but rather than your gloves from five years ago with a hole in the little finger, treat yourself to some thermal work gloves. Look out for Kevlar, Endura or Thinsulate. Type in thermal work gloves and let Google do the hard work.
3. Waterproof socks – This one is a little money saver for you. One of the easiest ways to keep warm is to keep your feet toasty and dry. Aldi recently had some waterproof socks in their special buys aisle and we have it on good authority that they work a treat so be quick and grab yourself a bargain.
4. Scrap the sandwich – Now, this tip will only be useful if you are lucky enough to have good onsite canteen facilities but we had to put it out there because there is nothing worse on a cold dreary day than a salad or sandwich for your lunch. Get yourself a hearty, winter lunch. Hotpot or casserole is a great one because you can bung it in the slow cooker in the evening with minimal effort. Then just take your tub into work and chuck it in the microwave for a midday pit stop. Filling and will warm you right up.
